You know the facts and you will hear more on a Today Show segment early in August. Vivian runs. Her son, PFC Brian Bales is currently serving a term of duty in Iraq. With Brian thousands of miles off , in the middle of a war zone….what’s a mother to do? This one puts on her Army shirt and runs. In fact, Vivian has pledged to go the distance: 6436 miles… a mile for mile match between her home in Illinois and where Brian is stationed. It’s her way of showing support for her son and getting through the days until his safe return.
Family and friends and all sorts of kind people identify with Vivian. Some of them have been donating miles to her run. It’s all about supporting Brian and servicemen and women, and their families. “It makes me feel like I’m not forgotten and that people still care about us over here,” says Brian. “It’s hard to overstate the value of such support.” And that, I think, says it all.
What an great idea. Can’t wait to see the Today Show story!
I have been waiting for something to inspire me enough to decide to finally get back into working out. I think this is the reason. I remember the last time I vowed to get back in shape was shortly after 9/11. I vowed to do it then and succeeded. Due to my husband’s health conditions I have again let myself get out of shape. I can’t think of a better inspiration than this to get myself back in shape yet again.
